They need to protect their own arses, because what they are doing is not up to snuff for a democratic institution. Can anyone believe otherwise? Emails, phone logs. . . these things just go missing when they prove inconvenient.
It is cognitive dissonance in action.
Of course they need to protect the interogators (& probably the President) - from PROSECUTORS!
Oh, and what I don't get about the "lost" emails is, since that's already a federal crime, why isn't anyone getting investigated?
that's the thing, when ever these bastards are talking about shit like national security they are really talking about keeping their corrupt, vile, lying asses out of jail.
