Scene from El Rancho Harpo (on the road edition)
all are gone except the beautiful APRIL (looking
radiant in her green and gold floozie costume),
Dark haired and tastefully groomed violinist CINDY,
various workers clearing the night's mess and readying
the stage for tomorrow's shows, and THE MINSTREL BOY
seated at the piano, playing one of three songs he
can play on the instrument, CHOPIN's NOCTURNE, not
flawlessly, but with great feeling.
April smiles slyly and refills MINSTREL's water glass.
APRIL: That's for my lovin' man. Never can get enough.
MINSTREL: Enough? Never.
CINDY: (knowing the game and playing along wonderfully picks up her violin)
Is that "Old Dog Tray"?
Play "Old Dog Tray" and I'll fiddle with you.
MINSTREL: Pardon?
CINDY: You know. Stephen Foster. "Camptown Races." "Oh, Susannah."
Stephen-fucking-Foster.
MINSTREL: Well, this happens to be a "knock-turn"
CINDY: A what-turn?
MINSTREL: You know, Frederick-fucking-Chopin
They all dissolve into silly giggles. The people working pause to applaud.
Sometimes, we can't help ourselves. We love that movie.

It sounds like plenty of fun going around there. Pictures would be nice!
one electonic toy i haven't gotten yet is the camera, i keep waiting for somebody to remember that for christmas or birthday, i've never been a big picture guy, and every time i have disposable cash for an impulse purchase like that i find another instrument on eBay or i get an email offering a rare guitar that i've always wanted. . .you're right though, next trip i'll borrow my sister's camera. pictures would have been fun. April dressed as an old west saloon floozie was worth the price of admission alone. We never prevailed upon her to sing with us. Also, Cindy the violinist is a cutie too. Pictures would have been nice. Although I could have asked some of the tourists, and will do so at today's matinee. Why should there be videotape of the show in Germany and Japan and none here? It's unamerikun I tells ya.
Is that...Tomb-fucking-stone? *giggle*
(john wayne voice)
yep.
I've been reading through a few of your 'April' posts. You sound totally contented. :) deb
more of comfortable acceptance than contentment. we recognise that we are both deeply flawed individuals and have pretty well defined boundries of how far we take things. it's been a wonderful week. it will come to an end very soon. i doubt very much that this will ever change much with us. we come together like porcupines, carefully. the name i gave her in apache is tsu-kin tsas'i which means cactus flower. very pretty, lovely smell, just be sure to use caution when you try to touch. if she were to name me it would be something like "self-absorbed, work obsessed maniac." we just do what we can with what we have. while we were driving home from tombstone this morning she told me that she's leaving tomorrow morning. my second thought after "shit" was "at least now i can get some work done."
not a lot of fairy tale romance there. i will mope and miss her for a long time. then i'll suck it up and muddle through best as i can. then she'll come again. it will all start over.
