Ten thousand goddam cattle
A-roamin' far and wide.
Shore wisht I had my sweetie here
A-layin' by my side,
A=layin' by my side.
My gal, she up an' left me
I spect she's gone to stay.
She lit outta here a-runnin'
With a son-of-a-bitch from Ioway (2x)
I'm a lone man, a real lone man.
He wasn't tall ner handsome
Jist an ornery lookin' cur
Shucks, I dunno what she seen in him,
Or what he seen in her-r-r (2x)
They took my pinto pony
And they took my six-weeks' pay
The only thing they left here for me
Was this dam' gee-tar to play (2x)
I'm a lone man, a real lone man.
She never wrote no letter
She never sent one line,
T'tell me where the hell she put
Them French postcards o' mine (2x)
Ten thousand goddam cattle
They kin rot fer all of me,
Unless I find a purtier gal
T'ease my misery-y-y (2x)
I'm a lone man, a real lone man.
DEAD BROKE!

That's fantastic! What a great post - thanks for putting the MIDI link up too.
i love old cowboy songs. they are gems and treasures. the sanitized hollywood versions don't reach me, but stuff like "windy bill" "idaho jack" "old paint" all touch me deep inside somewhere. there's a whole sub-genre from one ranch in texas where the foreman used to write his daughter back east about the goings on. they were all set to music of the day. wonderful stuff.
Nice theme you got goin' here, pard.
glad you like it, eh?
just so's you know, i've played calgary more than a couple of times during stampede. i love the big empty. a favorite uncle has a fishing/hunting lodge in the piney woods of b.c. that i try to get to at least twice a year. it's interesting to note that i just finished a phone call with my goat ropin' partner. there is a grip of vultures circling the draw where we brought the goats out. we're saddling up to check it out soon, hope it's a goat or something and not another unfortunate border hopper. i don't care how people feel about immigration laws, it shouldn't be a death penalty offense to be desperate for a better life. welcome to the blog. i'll be cueing up some ian tyson while i ride.
Great stuff! It's always nice to see a non-gag post in the midst of all us silly folk. ;-)
ya'll a such masters of snark and sarcasm that i figured i should start playing to my strength. i noticed that when i flipped through the pictures i would sometimes have a song pop up in my head, or be reminded of a poem. . .one of the coolest things about this little thing is that imagination gets cut loose. although i've always thought that this was one of the funnier songs around.
