BUT at this very moment the water authority is digging up in front of my place with a backhoe and jackhammer, so i turned off the cd.

The Mary Ellen Carter is the first Stan Rogers song I ever heard. I love the determination in both the lyrics and the medley. Makes me think I can do anything.

Rise again!
Rise again!
May her name not be lost
To the memory of men
Those who loved her best
and were with her to the end
will make the mary ellen carter
rise again

all spring now we've been with her
on a barge lent by a friend
three dives a day in hard hat suit
and twice i've had the bends
thank god it's only sixty feet
and currents here are slow
or i'd never have the strength to go below

rise again. . .

it's a great song. stan's a great guy. he's got that amazing stolid decency one almost only can find in canadians.

I love "Hard-Headed Woman" by Yusuf Islam (nee Cat Stevens), he who shall forever be held up at airports due to that unfortunate moniker.

just having written Peace Train is enough to get him on the bad side of the current crowd of eedjits.
