Book Giveaway Time Again!

I just finished a great little book by Bob Harris of Prisoner of Trebekistan a Decade of Jeopardy called Who Hates Whom

He goes region by region around the world and gives a thoughtful and incisive analysis of the conflicts. In the course of the book you learn little tidbits like

Which countries are fighting over an uninhabitable glacier with no real strategic value at an annual cost of half a billion dollars?

Which under-reported war has been the deadliest since World War II, worse than Viet Nam, with a continuing aftermath worse than most current conflicts combined?

Which royal family members were respected as gods, until the crown prince machine gunned the king and queen?

Which country's high school students think that the Nazis had a "good side"?

Which nation's readers recently put "Mein Kampf" on the best seller list?

Which country watches itself with more than four million security cameras?

(hint, the last three countries are all U.S. allies)

So, here's the deal. As with all of my give away contests I promise that the judging criteria will be unfair and arbitrary. I will further state the the judging panel (Me) will prove to be corrupt and easily swayed by off topic pleas. I am also very easy to bribe.

The contest is who ever give the most correct answers to the above questions will get a copy of the book, sent by me. The beauty of the whole thing is that somebody who knows all of that shit already won't be the one who needs to be reading it.

Leave your answers in the comments.

Canada and Russia?

Which under-reported war has been the deadliest since World War II, worse than Viet Nam, with a continuing aftermath worse than most current conflicts combined?

The "situation" in the Congo.

Which royal family members were respected as gods, until the crown prince machine gunned the king and queen?

The Nepal Royal Family.

Which country's high school students think that the Nazis had a "good side"?

I'm guessing we can rule out Israel. I'm going with Germany. (2nd guess Austria)

Which nation's readers recently put "Mein Kampf" on the best seller list?

I'm pretty sure that book is banned under German law.

Oh, it has to be our friend, the Turks. The ones spending millions to lobby against the genocide resolution.

Which country watches itself with more than four million security cameras?

Gotta go with England on this one. Or Britain, Or the United Kingdom if you want to get ultra technical.

I started to try to think about this and then my brain froze up. Guess it was the time of day or something (6:28 am)

I'll shut my brain down and try restarting it. Wish me luck :)

Sorry to interrupt the mental olympics, but have you heard about the "New Times Editor and a reporter being arrested over airing the subpoena they got? You can go to 1480KPHX.com for details. Interesting if you're not an Arpaio fan!

i've been following it in the new times. i'm somewhat conflicted about arpaio. i've worked with his deputies on the search and rescue team and they are pretty decent guys. arpaio loses me when he does stuff just to be mean. like the baloney that turns green when exposed to air. it doesn't hurt anything it just looks like shit. tastes like shit too. when he first instituted the cheap but won't kill you diet at the jail arpaio went for a month eating nothing but jail food. so he does have courage of his convictions. there is enough bullshit to go around. i think he's messing with the wrong folks on this one. the guys that run the new times are veterans of the village voice. . .this ain't their first time at the rodeo.

Arpaio ...just a gut feeling about the guy, and only that ...he is dirty, and on the take somehow...might be my liberal bent talkin' ...we'll see .....

UK was the only right answer on my guess game ...Nepal came to mind after reading here ....Nazis ...could have been any High School in my state ..IN is really, really red ..Bribery, I got nothin' ...

the thing about arpaio that is disturbing me right now is that he is refusing to answer the questions about where the money came from. dude makes a $70K salary a year and is wheeling in cash real estate deals amounting to millions. so, joe, what's up? and don't get all "how dare you ask me?" on us. it's our right to ask, and your duty to answer.

Oh shit, maybe I blew it on the glacier question. I was thinking of polar regions, not glaciers.

Duh.
