MB,I think you said it a couple months ago - when she's on her voice makes the angels cry.

i have never made any secret of my absolute devotion to emmylou. i've had the honor and pleasure of working with her a few times and every time is a delight, joy and spiritual transportation. she also is one of the worst poker players in the world which makes a long bus ride even more profitable. (she's incapable of a poker face, devoid of artifice and doesn't not have a devious bone in her body)

and then, when it comes time for the work she is a consumate professional. to the delight and benefit of her audience. she never forgets that without the audience there is no us.

there is zero downside to an emmylou gig.

Now, THAT lifted my spirits. Emmylou has always been a favorite with a voice that makes me forget everything else. Thanks

I have a minor friendship with Jon Randal (we knew him as Randy Stewart when he was a kid playing bluegrass in Texas) who played guitar in the Nash Ramblers band with Emmylou. He can never say enough about her and how he loves her. Jon wrote "Whiskey Lullaby" with Bill Anderson several years ago and that song won Song of the Year (Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss). He says it was the best gig of his life getting to stand next to Emmylou and Sam Bush on the stage night after night and hear her sing.

in a business that features vicious competition, dreadfull personal insecurity, lots of neurosis, and a healthy dose of every single one of the deadly sins on a daily basis i have never, ever, not even once, heard a harsh word spoken about emmylou. it might be that there are legions of sidemen who would flat slap the living bejesus out of anyone silly enough to try, but, i chalk it up to her wonderful and sweet character which only makes her immense talent that much more amazing.
