Lincoln's Birthday
from the 1864 election written by Jesse Hutchinson (no relation to Asa)
the tune is Old Rosin The Beau
Hurrah for the choice of the nation!
Our chieftain so brave and so true;
We'll go for the great reformation --
For Lincoln and Liberty, too!
We'll go for the son of Kentucky
The hero of Hoosierdom through;
The pride of the Suckers so lucky
For Lincoln and Liberty, too.
Then up with our banner so glorious,
The star-spangled red, white, and blue,
We'll fight till our cause is victorious,
For Lincoln and Liberty, too.
We'll go for the son of Kentucky
The hero of Hoosierdom through;
The pride of the Suckers so lucky
For Lincoln and Liberty, too.
They'll find what by felling and mauling,
Our railmaker statesman can do;
For the people are everywhere calling
For Lincoln and Liberty, too.
We'll go for the son of Kentucky
The hero of Hoosierdom through;
The pride of the Suckers so lucky
For Lincoln and Liberty, too.

I love that you are an instrumentalist, but you pay so much attention to lyrics.
the lyrics are a huge clue to any instrumentalist. they can tell you how to sing the song. and when i accompany a singer i pay great attention to the lyrics. sometimes when they're really great they make me wish i could sing better.
How did I miss the big day? Hell, I should have at least raised a glass to him last night.
Here you go, Minstrelboy; a vet's story for a vet:
Over The Top by Arthur Guy Empey.
First read this about 40 years ago and just finished it again.
thank you PoLT. it is very welcome. although instead of reading on the net, i went back again into the copy of that one i own. some of the most important literature of the last century was forged in the cruicible of that war. i also enjoy "the good soldier schwiek" which i consider to be the natural ancestor of catch 22 and slaughter house 5
