Land of song say the Warrior Bards
Though all the world betrays thee.
One sword, at least, Thy Rights Shall Guard,
And one faithful harp shall praise Thee.
I think you may have overstated Rush's brain, SB. I think I would have gone with a harmonica for his brain, and a comb and a piece of wax paper for his brain on drugs.
i confess not only to knowing how to play the accordian (it was mom's idea) but to owning two and a concertina. sometimes there are just sounds you need and can get nowhere else. i have fun with them on some tejano and cajun stuff. (floored some folks once by taking the button accordian and starting the opening riff to dire straight's "walk of life"). it turned out that these two were in the flickr pool right next to each other and i couldn't escape the connection. i was going for the whole "cool and stylish" to "square and hopelessly square" comparison.
welcome kona, been hoping you'd stop by...one of my best friends in the industry is a monster harmonica man. something we do for ourselves is to have me on acoustic slide (i use a national steel body) and him on harmonica going for the really old blues. son house, leadbelly, robert johnson, rev. gary davis, furry lewis, lightin' hopkins. we love it so much that we are very picky about where we take it. we've been to a few stops on the festival circuit but the "blues police" are usually out in force and know so much more than the artists about the form it takes all the fun out of it. there was an old player from mississippi named bernie wallace who had a bit where he would look like he was swapping two full sized harmonicas one in each hand and then he would get to where he had both hands down at his side and harmonica music still going. then, he'd spit out the mini...great showmanship
wallace was an old guy 20 years ago, although with the delta players you never can tell. some of them just keep going. . .i'll check around and see if he's still out there. . .
Currently Reading: Against the Day - Thomas Pynchon (still slogging through) Just started "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" by Mosin Hamid.

I have a mini harmonica key chain. That would be suitable.
