That's some mighty fine music you've got on your pod, MB. I've got Bonnie Raitt's "Love Letter" on as I pen post. Now I'm fix'en to listen to some Emmylou Harris. I just adore that song she sings on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, "A Love That Will Never Grow Old." Yep, I loves me some Emmylou.

i adore emmylou, though i must say, her surpassing skill is as a singer of harmony. she's the absolute best i have ever heard, seen or worked with. she's also a wonderful, kind, generous, absolutely real country girl. i like that too. she's on a very short list of people who could summon me from anywhere, anytime merely by saying "please." she could hand me a blank paper, call it a contract, promise to fill the rest in later, and i'd sign. her "live at the ryman" is one of my favorite albums. she's one of my favorite people. i love her without limit or reservation. oh, yeah, she's so honest that she's one of the lousiest poker players you'll ever meet. anybody with anything not totally positive to say about her has a fight on their hands with me.

i have a lot of little gems like that sittin' on the disc. there are a couple of problems though. first is, i usually can't stand to listen to myself on tape. all i can hear is mistakes. like on that one i can point out about eight things that should have been rolled back and redone (except this was a live, off the sound board take) and when i listen, usually that's all i hear. i don't hear joni (who is a gem, by the by) who delivers one of the finer renditions of that song (one of her best) i don't hear the other musicians who were cooking right up there. i hear picky little mistakes. one of the reasons i would never be able to make the transition to producing is that perfectionism. i need a strong front singer and strong producer and sometimes the whole rest of the band to tell me to calm the fuck down and print the son of a bitch. the other tough thing about my personal collection of my playing is that it's mostly out takes because when i do something right, at that instant, it belongs to somebody else. ain't that a bitch?

welcome to the blog maggie. i can't declare a particular tone or style but i do try to spew a little something out on a regular basis. i try to maintain a totally free fire zone when it comes to anything anybody wants to say, except, of course, bullshit spambots. i do welcome any and all criticism and input.
