Well put. I have only one question - is it just my misperception, or are the vast majority of vets running for ofice democrats? I'll go to VoteVetsand check that out.
During wartime a political axiom is that the returning veterans tend to register, vote and run for the opposition. Eisenhower, MacArthur were both lifelong Dems who upon their return signed up for the opposition. McClellan and Burnside both ran opposing Lincoln and his policies after being cashiered. The current crop of Republican generals was forged by the experience under LBJ and MacNamera in Viet Nam. Many of them, however, like Major General Batiste, are turning oppositional.
