Malibu Moment Redux

As soon as I heard about the firestorm in Malibu I called my friend that I was such a smart ass with to find out if his place had been harmed or threatened. It, glady, had not. Not this time anyway. I asked him if he had thought about what I had said on new year's day during all the furor and he said yes. He also said that when he remembered it he started to laugh out loud. The police who had come to tell him to be on evacuation standby thought he might have gone a bit mad on them.

Seems no matter where you live, Mother Nature is going to take a swing at you sooner or later.

there are always adaptations and choices to be made. i just felt a little bad that my friend's place was in danger so quickly after i had smarted off to him. i also reminded him of a mutual friend near Palm Springs that would have emergency boarding space for his critters should it ever come to that. Palm Springs doesn't have brush fires. Sand doesn't burn. It used to be that the only things to do in Palm Springs were to golf and let Sinatra fix you up to get laid. . .now there's only the one thing.

Sinatra was a complete equal opportunity fixer upper. He would blow into Vegas and there were some truly gorgeous boy dancers who would get phone calls to come and "be nice" to a friend of Frank's. Frank didn't give a shit, he just wanted his friends to be able to find what they wanted to find at his party. I call that a Hall of Fame quality host.

Agreed (although there are enough ugly stories about Sinatra that I haven't ever been especially interested in learning more about him - plus despite his significance to the history of American pop music his singing style has never done much for me).

- oddjob (who when reading of the lack of things to do in Palm Springs couldn't help but remember the truly relentess parade of ads for clothing-optional gay resorts in Palm Springs he has seen over the years)
